Miss Catania – Class Teacher
I am absolutely delighted to be starting my third year of teaching at St Matthew’s. I have taught in Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5, and I cannot wait to start a new journey in Year 4, and get to know you all even more.
For those of you who are new to St Matthew’s, here’s a little bit about me! I am half Maltese and enjoy visiting my family every summer in Malta. My favourite thing to do outside of school is spend time with my ever-growing family! I am now an auntie to my two beautiful nephews. I also continue to enjoy cooking and baking, and exploring new walking spots with my labradoodle, Ralph.
It is a real privilege to work in such a friendly and nurturing school, and be part of such a wonderful school family. One of my favourite things at St Matthew’s is all of the exciting musical opportunities that you can take part in, which is extra special to me because I lead this subject. At St Matthew’s, you get the chance to learn new instruments, take part in festivals, and participate in musical productions, and hopefully lots more next year!
Class governor friend
Each class has a ‘Class governor friend’. Your class governor friend is a member of the governing body, who will remain linked to your class throughout their time as a governor, moving through the school with you. They are looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming year!
Ian Harrison
My name is Ian Harrison. I became a governor in the Autumn of 2019. I had retired shortly before this time and I was looking for ways to engage in my local community in Stretford, so when I was approached by the former Chair to join the governors, I was glad to apply. I have previous experience of being a trustee for charities and so understand the responsibilities and issues of governance. I am a foundation governor which means that I have a role to represent the Church in serving and promoting St Matthew’s School.
My former career was in business and in the IT side of the engineering industry. I am not an education expert, but I aim to bring other necessary skills to the team of governors. I do believe that education is very important and we must do the very best job we can to help each child develop their full potential. Children learn as much from the culture and attitudes in their school’s environment as they do from the lessons themselves and I affirm the ethos of St Matthew’s School. We still have work to do in this fast-changing world to enable every child to leave the school with the best possible outcome, whilst never forgetting the routine tasks of ensuring that the children are safe and that the school’s facilities are the best that we can provide.
