St Matthew’s Theologically Rooted Vision

St Matthew’s school community empowers every child to reach their full potential through an inspirational and diverse curriculum. Rooted in God’s love, the children embrace the fullness of life for themselves and reach out to others in partnership within their community and beyond.

St. Matthew’s has clear theologically rooted vision for the future of our school and the education of our children. We want everyone to thrive at St. Matthew’s and this vision is summed up by our motto which is taken from Matthew 5.16: ‘Let your light shine’. We believe all children can shine at St Matthew’s and we strive for every member of our school family to succeed and flourish with us. This belief is founded on our school values of kindness, respect, aspiration and perseverance.

These values were chosen by our school and church family and we aim to embody these Christian values in all we do. They guide us, ground us and bind us. Therefore every family from across our community, including those of different faiths and no faith, are welcomed at St. Matthew’s and we are proud of our diversity. That sense of family and our values help us to foster the warm, nurturing atmosphere which
allows our children to thrive and succeed.

Our Motto:

Let Your Light Shine –Matthew 5:16

Our Theologically Rooted Vision
‘In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven’. Matthew 5:16

Our Christian Values as a school – theologically rooted
The school’s values can also be understood theologically in the character, actions and teaching of Jesus that we seek to reflect throughout the school:

Respect: Do to others what you want them to do to you. Matthew 7:12

Kindness: Be kind and loving to each other, and forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ. Ephesians 4:32

Perseverance: I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

Aspiration: Depend on the Lord in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3

These values were chosen by our school family and we aim to embody these Christian values in all we do. They guide us, ground us and bind us. Therefore every family from across our community, including those of different faiths and no faith, are welcomed at St. Matthew’s and we are proud of our diversity.

That sense of family and our values help us to foster the warm, nurturing atmosphere which allows our children to thrive and succeed

Our Christian values are exemplified within the parable of the Good Samaritan. The characters in this parable embody our school values, inspire our students to embrace our learning community and explore education for life in all of its fullness.

The Good Samaritan – Parable – Luke 10:25-37

As a good neighbour, the Samaritan, stepped across the divide in peace and forgiveness to help the injured man, a Jew. He kindly offered him hope, love and friendship as he brought him to the innkeeper to recover, and he trusted the innkeeper to care for the man until he returned. Jesus invites us to love God and love our neighbour. We have shared this parable to link our Christian values with our Rights and Respecting Schools and Peace Mala work.

Our commitment to our children’s education helped St Matthew’s be recognised by UNICEF as a school where children’s rights are valued and promoted. We are now proud to be the first school in Trafford to be a UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting School.
