Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools by the government. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils at their school. An annual Pupil Premium grant (PPG) of £1,345 is awarded to pupils who have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) during the past six years. Schools also get £2,345 for every pupil who has left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order. Local authorities get the same amount for each child they are looking after; they must work with school to decide how the money is used to support the child’s personal education plan.
Pupil Premium at St Matthew’s
At St Matthew’s CE Primary 34% of our children are eligible for pupil premium. The total amount of pupil premium provisionally allocated in 2021/2022 is £84,045 [1].
At St Matthew’s CE Primary School, pupil premium funding is used to ensure all disadvantaged children thrive and are effectively supported to achieve academic success and be secondary ready.
This means diminishing the difference between the attainment of these pupils and their peers. Therefore, pupil premium spending per child is broken down into three areas: teaching, targeted academic support and wider strategies.
This important area of our provision is led by:
Pupil Premium Lead | Miss E Tyrer |
Pupil Premium Link Governor | Mrs E Entwistle |
[1] Due to high pupil mobility, the exact proportion of funding allocated to the school each term can vary from indicative figures.
As we are a Rights Respecting School, we also believe that children to give their opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously (Article 12). After consulting with the children in the school, in offering them support, they would like us to focus on:
- Giving extra support with concepts they haven’t fully understood in lessons.
- They want to know that if there is a problem, there is someone they can talk it through with to find a solution.
