Headteacher Welcome

We are incredibly proud of our school council and the work they do on behalf of our students for our school.  They were the first school council in Trafford to form a written constitution and the opening line taken from the Convention of Children’s Rights sums up their work very well:

Children have the right to say what they think should happen,

when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have

their opinions taken into account.

(The Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 12)

School Council Constitution

At St. Matthew’s CE Primary School our school council have a clear mission:

‘working on behalf of our fellow students to improve our school and community’

Here are our school councillors for 2016/2017:

School Council News

Trip to the Town Hall (13.12.2016)

Our school councillors attended a citizenship ceremony at Trafford Town Hall this morning. We were welcomed by the Mayor of Trafford and taken into her chamber for a question and answer session and some refreshments. Before our visit, we collectively prepared a poem to perform about being British and we read it out during the ceremony. We finished the ceremony by singing our national anthem. The Mayor has invited us back soon to hold one of our meetings in the chambers – how exciting!

Speakers School Council Award

Amazing news! We have received an award from the Speakers School Council Award. Our school council has been recognised by the Speaker’s School Council Award for making a difference to our school. The award was received for the Council’s work on the Referendum when we voted to change one of our team names to Malala. Well done to all the school councillors for their hard work!

Playground Benches

We asked our Friends and Family group for money for new playground benches and they have now been fitted on both playgrounds. We think they look great!

Wet play boxes!

After speaking with their class mates the school council decided they would like some wet play boxes, they wanted resources that could just be used during wet play. The Councillors came up with lots of fantastic ideas such as playing cards, dominoes, pens and paper. We had to work to find the best prices for our budget and placed an order! We will post some photos once the boxes are ready! Keep checking back!

Our wet play boxes are ready!

Today the children spent some of their lunch time sorting through our orders and putting them in boxes ready for our next wet playtime!
