St. Matthew’s Friends & Family
Welcome to St. Matthew’s Friends & Family page.
Welcome to St. Matthew’s Friends & Family page. We are a group of
volunteers (parents, teachers, grandparents, guardians and community members) whose aim is to
support and contribute to the life of the school through fund-raising and community events.
With the help of our parents, teachers and of course the children we have raised money for some
amazing projects and had a lot of fun in the process.
Last year we helped fund a whole school trip to the theatre to watch ‘Father Christmas’, gift dictionaries
to out outgoing year 6’s to support them on the rest of their education journey, and paid for ice lollies
for the whole school on sports day. In previous years we have also helped fund a new school library and
the courtyard totem pole.
Throughout the year we hold several events and a lot of fun and games is had by all. Examples of the
types of events we hold are an annual Christmas Fair, a Christmas Gift Sale, a bake-off competition and
the highlight of our fundraising calendar the Community Fun Day.
As a friends and family group we welcome anyone who wants to get involved. There are loads of
ways to get involved in St Matthew’s Friends & Family which don’t involve joining the board or regular
commitment (unless you want to). We always need people to bake, take photographs, sell tickets, wrap
presents, man stalls, attend events, donate raffle prizes etc.
You can keep UpToDate with Friends and Family news by emailing us at

This year the children have asked for a new bike shelter, so we are working hard to raise funds towards that.
Bake-off: Once again we were awash with an amazing array of cakes. We had entrants across all the school years plus some phenomenal entrants to the adult’s celebration cakes category. Children’s categories included traybakes, biscuits & cupcakes. This year we raised £184 which was a fantastic achievement. Thanks to all that entered this year’s competition.
Christmas Gift Sale: Once again the children enjoyed a visit to our Christmas Gift sale to purchase presents for their loved ones. Gifts ranges from teddies to mugs, homemade tree decorations to harmonicas (thankfully neither of my children chose to buy one), and colouring books to chocolate. Not only did the children have a wonderful time but we managed to raise an incredible £712.19.
Christmas Fair & Raffle Christmas Fair: Our Christmas Fair and raffle was a resounding success. Families arrived in their droves to enjoy the stalls, fun and games, and of sample a cake or two while hoping their ticket would be drawn in the raffle. We raised a phenomenal £805 this year.
Quiz Night: This March saw the first ever St Matthews Friends & Family quiz night held at Stretford’s Sip Club. The evening was a brilliant success, with drink flowing, tons of laughter and a lot of head scratching all around. Massive thanks go to the incredible Helen Clayton for preparing all the questions and hosting the evening and congratulations go to our winners “Dan’s Team”. The evening raise a fantastic £135 towards our bike shelters.
Community Fun Day & Dog Show:
This year’s fun day featured the first ever St Matthew’s dog show organised and hosted by the wonderful Lucy Cawdron. The sun was shining over St Matthew’s all day allowing our families and local community to enjoy the dog show, bounce on the pirate ship, toast marshmallows over the fire, hook a duck, watch the performances, indulge in cakes and win big on the tombola’s. Fun was had by all and an amazing £1,170 was raised towards our new bike shelters.
