During what could be a very worrying time for our families we have created this page to provide some important information related to the support on offer for families in Trafford during the coronavirus pandemic.

At the time of updating this page, all of the services listed below remain available. We will try our best to keep the page as updated as possible with new information.

Trafford’s Community Response

Do you need help with anything such as:

  • Food shopping
  • Getting fuel (if you’re on a pre-paid meter)
  • Getting essential medication
  • Looking after pets
  • Someone to talk to

Across the borough of Trafford, a community of charities, businesses, community groups and the Council have all come together to make sure you have the support you need during this challenging time.

If you live alone, are struggling to make ends meet, are self-isolating or generally in need of advice or support please contact 0300 330 9073 (8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday).

The advice line is for Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale and Trafford. Please select option 4 for Trafford and then ignore the options for ‘goods and services’ or ‘pensions’ – just hold the line and we will signpost you to one of the Trafford Community Response Hubs to access the support you need.

Old Trafford Wellbeing Centre

Old Trafford Wellbeing Centre is a community wellbeing hub run by and for the benefit of local residents with support from blueSCI, which supports people who may be experiencing emotional or psychological distress. The aim of the centre is to support local individuals and families to achieve their goals and improve their health and wellbeing through the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

Old Trafford Wellbeing Centre remains open with tea, coffee, biscuits and an opportunity for a chat/update on community services Monday – Thursday, they are also trying to source foodbank vouchers.

The Bread and Butter Thing

The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) is a charity that makes life more affordable for people on a low income. Their mission is to create a fair solution for people in poverty and our long-term aim is to address the premiums that people in poverty pay for food, loans, energy and other everyday essentials simply because of their personal circumstances.

Trafford Assist

Trafford Assist is Trafford’s Local Welfare Assistance scheme designed to help residents:

  • Meet immediate short-term needs in an emergency or as a result of a disaster.
  • Return to or remain in the community and help them to live independently in their own home.

To receive an award, you must be able to show that you have no other means of getting help and an award is the only way that you can avoid serious damage or risk to the health or wellbeing of you or your family.

Stretford Food Bank

Stretford Foodbank provide emergency food parcels for those in genuine need. They operate by referral. We work with many local agencies that work with the public. All our partnering agencies hold vouchers and can refer people to the food bank when they identify a genuine need. St Matthew’s CofE Primary School is a partnering agency and food bank vouchers can be obtained from the school. Trafford Welfare Rights Advice Line

Trafford Council’s Welfare Rights Team will give you free, independent advice on how to claim benefits. They will help you understand which benefits you are entitled to claim and explain how you can appeal if you think decisions made about your benefits are not correct. This service includes confidential benefit checks for all the benefits listed.

To make sure you get the right advice, you will need to give some information about your home and family circumstances, your income and savings and any disabilities you and your family have. You can make an appointment to see the team at community venues across Trafford. Home visits are available for people who are unable to get out and about. NHS Health Advice

The NHS App lets you book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and access a range of other healthcare services. Click the logo or call 111.

Trafford Domestic Abuse Services

Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) is a registered charity. TDAS offer support to individuals and families living or working in the Trafford area who are suffering or who have suffered domestic abuse. They provide both intervention and prevention services and work in partnership with other voluntary organisations to support families across Greater Manchester.
