Welcome to Year Two!

I hope you all had a wonderful summer, I have already heard some fantastic things about the children’s holidays.

I hope you are looking forward to the year ahead. This page will give you news about events and learning in our class.

Below are some important bits of information:

  • PE kits should stay in school. They will be sent home at the end of every half term for washing. PE kits should include a white t-shirt, shorts and jogging bottoms, pumps, trainers and a jacket. PE is every Tuesday and Thursday.
Children who do not have their PE kit in school for 1 week will be given a warning, if they do not have it for 2 weeks, a letter will be sent home to remind parents and carers.
  • Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and shoes, are clearly named.
  • Homework will be given out on Fridays and is expected to be in by the following Tuesday. Spellings will also be sent out for the children to practice. The day these are given out may change, depending on where we are up to in our spelling unit.
  • Reading Books should be read throughout the week with a grown up. Please sign the Reading Records if you have read with your child. Each child has been given a specific day to change their books, books can only be changed if handed in and the reading records have been signed. In year 2 the children are read with daily in Read Write Inc lessons. We endeavour to read with each child regularly so it is important to have their book in every day.  I have attached questions below that you may want to ask your children during reading times.

Handwriting

Below is a parent document to explain how handwriting is taught across EYFS & KS1.  This year we are making a change to how we teach handwriting in the Infants.  Children will now be taught how to join up their ‘Special Friend’ Sounds, as they learn them in Phonics.  This means children will begin joining some letters from the end of reception and in Y1, much earlier than in previous years.  We hope you will find this useful!
